The short version
- We collect what Platefully needs to check food for you: your account, your health profile and your scans.
- We don’t sell your information, show ads, or use your data to track you across other apps.
- Label photos are read by an AI service only to give you your result.
- Photos are shared with Open Food Facts only when you choose to share them.
- You can delete your account, and everything saved to it, from inside the app.
This policy explains how Getplatefully LLC (“Platefully”, “we”, “us”) handles information in the Platefully app and on getplatefully.app. If anything is unclear, email getplatefully@gmail.com.
1. What we collect
| Information | Why |
|---|---|
| Account details: email address and password, or a sign-in token from Sign in with Apple; your name; your phone number if you give it. | To create your account, keep it secure, let you recover it, and sync your data across devices. |
| Health profile: the diets you follow, allergies and ingredients you avoid, health conditions you choose to add, anything you type in yourself, and what brought you to Platefully. | To check every product against it and, on Premium, to write your personal overview. |
| Family members (Premium): the names, diets and allergies you enter for them. | To show who a product works for. |
| Scans and lists: the products you scan and search, their scores and ingredients, your pantry and your grocery list. | To show your history and saved items, and to give you the same answer when you scan a product again. |
| Photos you take in the app: ingredient labels and fronts of packages. | To read the ingredients or the product name when a barcode isn’t enough. |
| Purchases: whether you have Premium, and an anonymous purchase ID. Apple handles your payment details; we never see them. | To unlock Premium and restore it on a new device. |
| Usage counts: how many scans you’ve made this month. | To apply the free plan’s monthly limit. |
We don’t collect your contacts, your precise location, or advertising identifiers, and the app contains no advertising or third-party analytics.
Your health profile is sensitive information. We use it only to give you your results. We never sell it, never use it for advertising, and never share it except with the service providers described below, as needed to run the features you use.
2. Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run Platefully. They may only use your information to provide their service to us.
- Supabase: hosts our database, accounts and server code.
- AI providers (OpenRouter and Google): read the text in label photos and, on Premium, write your personal overview. They receive the photo or the ingredient list, and for the overview your health profile, but not your name or email.
- Apple and RevenueCat: process and manage subscriptions.
- Open Food Facts: when you scan a barcode or search, we look the product up in Open Food Facts. Only the barcode or search words are sent, never your account or profile.
- Our email provider: sends account emails such as sign-up confirmations and password-reset codes.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or others.
3. Sharing photos with Open Food Facts (your choice)
When a product is missing from Open Food Facts, the app may offer to add it. Before anything is sent, you see the photos and choose Send photos or Don’t send, and you can turn the offer off in the app. If you send them, your photos, the product name and the ingredient list are published on Open Food Facts under their open licence (Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike) for anyone to use. They’re sent through Platefully’s own contributor account with an anonymous ID; your name and email are not included. Please only share photos of packaging.
4. How long we keep it
We keep your information while you have an account. When you delete your account in the app (Profile, Account & plan, Delete account), your account and the data saved to it are deleted. Product information that isn’t linked to you, and photos you chose to publish on Open Food Facts, are not affected. We may keep limited records where the law requires it.
5. Your choices and rights
- View and change your health profile and account details at any time in the app.
- Delete your account in the app, or ask us to by email.
- Turn off camera access in your iPhone settings; scanning needs it, but the rest of the app works without it.
- Turn off the offer to share photos with Open Food Facts.
- Depending on where you live, you may have further rights, such as to access or receive a copy of your data, under laws like the GDPR or the CCPA. Email us and we’ll help.
6. Children
Platefully isn’t meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them. Parents can add family members, including children, to their own account. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we’ll delete it.
7. Security
Information is encrypted in transit, access to your data is limited to your own account, and secret keys are kept on our servers, never in the app. No system is perfectly secure, so we also keep what we collect to what Platefully needs.
8. Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we’ll update the date above and let you know in the app.
