Questions, answered.
Everything people ask us most. Can’t find yours? Email us, and a real person will reply.
How is the 0–100 score worked out?
It starts from the product’s nutrition (the Nutri-Score), then takes points off for heavy processing and for additives with real evidence of concern. Every ingredient also gets its own rating, Good, Okay or Flagged, with a one-line reason, so you can see exactly why a product scored the way it did.
A product gives the same score every time you scan it.
What if a product isn’t found?
Take a photo of its ingredients list and Platefully reads it. If the product has no list because it’s a single ingredient, like paprika, a photo of the label works too.
You can then choose to add the product to Open Food Facts, so the next person who scans it finds it. Nothing is shared unless you choose to.
Where does the product information come from?
From Open Food Facts, a free, open database of food products built by volunteers around the world, and from the labels you photograph. Ingredient lists can be out of date or incomplete, so if you have a serious allergy, always check the package itself.
Can it read labels in Spanish or other languages?
Yes. Labels in other languages are read and checked in English, so an allergy check works whichever side of the package you photograph.
How does Platefully check my diets and allergies?
Every ingredient on the label is checked against your profile, including the other names ingredients go by. If something clashes, the result says Not a match for you and names each ingredient. Anything you add yourself is checked too.
Health conditions like IBS or diabetes are handled more gently: ingredients that can be a trigger are mentioned, never flagged as a hard no.
Can I check products for my family?
Yes, with Premium. Add each person with their own diets and allergies, and every scan shows who a product works for.
Is Platefully medical advice?
No. Platefully offers general food and ingredient information. It doesn’t diagnose or treat anything and doesn’t replace guidance from your doctor or dietitian.
What do I get for free, and what does Premium add?
Free: 5 scans a month, unlimited search, the score and every ingredient rated, and the diet and allergy check on every product.
Premium: unlimited scans, a written overview for you on every product, healthier alternatives that fit you, family profiles and a grocery list.
